Tour Departure Schedule
Tour departure times vary. Most cruise ships calling into the port of Ketchikan have a tour departure that will accomodate their guests.
We recommend that you book a tour departure time that is at least 30 minutes after your ship is scheduled to arrive and returns at least 30 minutes before your ship is scheduled to depart.
How to find us
The F/V Aleutian Ballad is docked at the Berth 3 on the main Cruise Ship Dock in downtown Ketchikan – across from the tunnel, behind Sockeye Sam’s and the Ketchikan Visitor’s Information Restrooms.
The Aleutian Ballad is docked on the same pier as the cruise ships!
Additional transportation is not required. It is a short, easy walk to get to our vessel from any cruise ship gangway or from any downtown Ketchikan hotel.
How the tour works
Thirty minutes before your tour departure time, our crew will greet you on the Main Cruise Ship Dock and direct you to the F/V Aleutian Ballad located just a short walk away, at Birth 3. Click here to view map
Come aboard and seat yourself under the heated and sheltered amphitheater or on the panoramic upper deck. When everyone is aboard and comfortable, the crew will “cut Loose” and head out to the pristine fishing grounds.
On our way to the fishing grounds, you will be familiarized with the boat you’re on and her colorful history as a working crab fishing boat in the notorious Bering Sea.
You will be acquainted with the history of Alaska’s fisheries as well as the type of fishing vessels and gear you are likely to encounter during your cruise through Alaskan waters.
During this ride out, you will get very close to islands and land which you can regularly see Alaska land wildlife such as Bears, deer, bald eagles and tons more!
Our crew will introduce themselves to our guests… and some guests introduce themselves to the crew!
As the F/V Aleutian Ballad pulls up on the first set of fishing gear, you will be right alongside watching as the crew begins to haul back.
The animals brought to the surface will be placed in a live tank for everyone to see. Be prepared with your cameras to capture the moments when you get to get close and touch these mysterious animals before they are gently released back into the sea.
